I was thinking about the futility of low interest rates and easy credit as the cure for everything and a Yiddish proverb my parents used to use jumped into my head:

Es helft wie a teiten, bankes

It means

It helps like leeches for a corpse

but it’s more pithy and rhythmic in Yiddish.
